Virginia

Sandie's paternal grandmother, Virginia, thought this was the silliest thing in the world. She's a good sport.

Paul and Sandie

My ex-wife Sandie and her dad, Paul, are roughly the same height. That is to say, they're both shorter than me. It's the only thing I have on either of them, so I feel compelled to exploit it.

Leia

Leia does Sandie's hair. She also used to sit around and watch bad movies with me in the middle of the afternoon, but suddenly everyone got too busy. It's also worth noting that she was actually named after Princess Leia, of Star Wars fame.

Scott

Scott is an art director. He listens to more audio books than I thought humanly possible. Thousands of them.

Alex and Rafael

Alex is the head of Studio 407, which I'm doing some work for. Rafael created Sonambulo, one of my favorite comic books. They met about thirty seconds before I took this photo, which makes them both excellent sports in my book.

Josh

Josh is a comic book writer. If you ever go to a party at his house, make a point of using the bathroom. You haven't whizzed until you've whizzed as Miles Davis' Kind of Blue softly plays in the background.

Erika

Erika is an artist. She plays bassoon in the Beach Cities Symphony Orchestra. She's a marine veteran. If that's not a renaissance woman, I don't know what is.

Sue-Anne

Sue-Anne and I teach Hands On Art together. She has a South African accent and a sense of decorum that it makes me feel that I should work on my own manners a little.

Lester and Lena

Lena and Sandie used to work together. Lester is a brown belt in Aikido. Don't mess with him.

Mike D.

Mike is married to Michelle. He has no problem putting on weird hats.

Mike L.

Mike is an enigma. I don't know anyone who's more appreciative of being written about, yet he refused to pose for this photo unless I put his little Don't Forget to Validate Your Parking face over his real one.

Marla and Greg

We met Marla and Greg through our daughter's school. I totally bum-rushed them to get this photo.

Chris

Chris is a documentarian, among other things. He is the only person I've ever met who has a bigger head than my dad.

Adam and Jun

Adam works at the Comic Bug. Jun co-owns the Comic Bug with Mike. I didn't ask either of them to make those faces.

Mark

Mark is a comic book writer. Contrary to what this image suggests, he's not just a disembodied head floating in space.

Omar

Omar and I met through Mike Le. The man can hold his alcohol.

Michelle

This is Michelle. We met through our daughters' school. In this shot, she just arrived from Jazzercize. Yes, Jazzercize.

Mike W.

This is Mike. He's a comic book writer and co-owner of The Comic Bug. He's my comic book writing guru and a huge fan of Van Halen.

Tom and Gina

Here are Screenwriter Tom and Actress Gina. We socialize quite a bit. Gina can be stubborn sometimes.

Renee

Renee is the accordionist in the Mortified After School Orchestra. She learned how to play the accordion to comfort her grandmother when she had to go to a nursing home.

Dave and Jillian

Dave is a Mortified producer. He really warmed to the idea of wearing a fez. Jillian spoke at a Mortified Live show recently. She read a fictional tale she wrote as a young teen about making sweet love to John Taylor and Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran.

Anne and Neil

Anne and Neil are producers at Mortified. Here, they're selling t-shirts.

Bruce

Bruce is my dog. He's probably a lab/pit mix. It took a lot of treats to get him to hold still.

Jim

Jim is my neighbor. He's married to Cheryl. I don't think he knew what he was committing to when I took this picture.

Cheryl

Cheryl is Jim's wife. She was reluctant to take this photo.

Bobby & Kitty

Bobby and Kitty are neighbor kids.

Me, Dave & Jerome

Dave and Jerome are from Australia. Dave owns a brewery. Jerome, seemingly, is a man of leisure.
